WEST WINDSOR — A Bergen County man convicted of robbing a West Windsor bank in 2005 was sentenced to 170 months in jail June 26 for his involvement in several robberies.
Albert Voute Jr., 32, of Oradell received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Anne E. Thompson along with an order to make nearly $6,000 in restitution and undergo three years of supervised release after he serves the jail term.
Mr. Voute admitted he robbed the West Windsor Hudson City Savings Bank off of Route 1 on Dec. 20, 2005, following a guilty plea at a hearing held in January.
Mr. Voute also told the court that he had been involved in robberies at two other banks around the time of the West Windsor robbery, including a Washington Mutual Bank in Emerson and another Hudson City Savings Bank in New Milford.
The robberies in December 2005 came shortly after Mr. Voute was released from prison after serving a sentence for robbing another series of banks in 1994.
In the West Windsor robbery, Mr. Voute entered the establishment and demanded cash from the teller, threatening her that he would pull a gun if she didn’t proceed quickly with the cash.
Following the crime, Mr. Voute fled to New York, returning to New Jersey soon after to commit the other two robberies.
The West Windsor Police Department, along with those of Emerson, New Milford, and Montvale assisted special agents from the Trenton FBI.
