Hoops group pays for school gym use

One-year deal entitles the association to 1,000 hours of gym use

Under a one-year agreement it reached with the school board months ago, the Hopewell Valley Basketball Association gave the board $15,000 on June 25 for use of school gymnasiums, school district spokeswoman JoAnn Meyer said.
Another $15,000 is due Dec. 31.
Ms. Meyer said about 600 youngsters play basketball in the association’s program.
The one-year deal entitles the association to 1,000 hours of gym use. If they use more than that, they will have to pay the district a higher hourly rate than they are paying for the first 1,000 hours.
If the association goes over 1,000 hours, will be subject to the regular hourly rental rate, which ranges from $25 to $50, depending on the day of the week. Sunday, for example, is a $50-an-hour day.
