Questions CHS deal
To the editor:
I am sure all of us in Hopewell Valley would welcome a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility for the Hopewell Valley YMCA. It can only be a boon to the community.
But, at a time when Capital Health Systems is trying to minimize public opposition to its proposed Hopewell Valley facility, to read that CHS has agreed to sell land to the YMCA "under terms that are very favorable to the YMCA" (HVN, June 28), and to read that the deal is to take place "when, and if, CHS takes ownership of property off Scotch Road," and to read in an accompanying story that a proposed ordinance to allow CHS to build a hospital at a height 10 feet higher than is currently allowed is now under consideration, leads this reader to only one conclusion: This deal has all the earmarks of what the old-timers would call "greasing the skids."
