Not Trenton, not Ewing just Lawrenceville
To the Editor:
Thank you for the news that something is finally being done about Lawrenceville’s designation and identity or rather lack of them.
As a resident of Lawrenceville for 44 years, I faced the problem many times. For example, when travelling, I had many rather unpleasant situations (even at airport checkpoints) when asked for my ZIP code and then my address (I have "Lawrenceville" on all my papers); however, after certain information was checked on the computer "Trenton" would come up for the 08648 ZIP code and eyebrows were raised. I had to explain, even when making a purchase over the telephone, the different designation is often skeptically noted ("Is that the address for your credit card?"). When purchasing something online, a credit card may be rejected because the ZIP code brings about an automatic response: "Trenton", while I try to input "Lawrenceville."
Try calling the telephone company and ask for a number in Lawrenceville. Is there such an entity? Our telephone is listed under Ewing… and the post office lists my address as "Trenton."
It’s time to establish our postal and telephone identity. Not Trenton, not Ewing just Lawrenceville.

Parent thanks organizers of ‘Safety Town’ program
To the Editor:
My child recently participated in our Lawrence Township "Safety Town" program at the Benjamin Franklin School. While this was not my first time experiencing the program, I was so impressed as it concluded last week that I felt compelled to spread the good news for future participants.
I realize this program dates back to at least 1975 when I can still recall myself as a child taking part in the program with Officer Maple, learning how to cross the street safely; sitting alongside the mini buildings and driving the big wheel cars was especially fun! Thirty years later, here I am revisiting the program but this time as a parent. It was different and of course improved over the years as most programs do but still leaving the same positive impact on me.
Thank you to all the wonderful people who made the commitment to help our children learn about safety. A special thank you to Rob and Claire Radice, Officer D. Burns, and Officer S. Colaiorio. In addition, I think it is necessary to mention the very special camp counselors who volunteered their time to "buddy up" with the young children each day. This community service is really welcomed by the children I observed. The program covered all aspects of safety: fire safety, water safety, stranger danger, street safety and additionally visits were arranged to our police station and Lawrenceville fire department. Thank you to everyone who put forth effort in making this program such a huge success. So many of our precious children are safer now because you cared about them!
