WEST WINDSOR — Regular hours at the West Windsor WaterWorks pool complex resumed Saturday following a July 4 fire that West Windsor Police are currently investigating as an arson and burglary case.
West Windsor police said the perpetrators entered the complex through a window in the main building, and proceeded to set fire to an office belonging to Assistant Manager of Recreation and Parks Noreen Tenaglia.
The complex is a frequent summer destination for West Windsor residents wishing to use the pool facilities, located in Community Park.
While Ms. Tenaglia’s office was destroyed by fire, other portions of the complex including the concession stand and the locker rooms were spared damage.
"Pretty much just the office was destroyed in the fire, but there was some other smoke damage," said West Windsor Detective Steve Skwierawski, who is conducting the investigation. "They’re waiting for an insurance assessor to come and tell them how much damage the fire caused."
Detective Skwierawski said there were no new developments in the investigation.
Police said the perpetrators entered the pool complex sometime around 6:22 p.m., when the fire began, with area fire departments responding and getting the blaze under control by 7:06 p.m.
Although WaterWorks closed Thursday due to some electricity problems caused by the fire damage, the complex was back open at 11 a.m. Friday.
Some Friday morning activities were canceled as officials continued cleaning up areas of the complex damaged by the fire.
