Resident congratulates Hopewell, chastises Lawrence, on hospital move
To the Editor:
Congratulations to Hopewell Township. Capital Health will not be moving its Mercer campus to Lawrence as proposed for several years. The democratic council members, Mayor Gregory Puliti, former Mayors Mike Powers, Pam Mount and Municipal Manager Richard Krawczun demonstrated clearly that the interest of the township comes second to politics.
It doesn’t take a genius to see how Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer convinced the members to block the move, as Powers and Palmer stood arm in arm on the site last year just shortly after it was recommended and approved as the right move by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. This is the leadership that you get in Lawrence. These are people not interested in what is best for you, but best for their party. The council now gets their wish; the hospital will not be built in Lawrence. The residents will not get the benefit of having a world-class facility at its doorstep. Physicians’ offices throughout Princeton Pike and the area will begin to migrate out of Lawrence to be close to the hospital and its wide reaching expanses and welcoming environment.
So, congratulations to the council members. Congratulations to Hopewell Township citizens. And for Lawrence citizens, more of the same politics. If you have had enough like me, look for alternative candidates this fall that act in the interest of the township and not the Mayor of Trenton.
