NJ Transit rolled out its second multilevel trainset on Monday, bringing to three the number of multilevel trains serving Princeton Junction per day in each direction.
The new eight-car train joins the 11-car train already in service between Trenton and New York. A third multilevel trainset is expected to enter service by September, based on the production and delivery schedule of manufacturer Bombardier Transportation, according to NJ Transit.
To New York, the multilevel trains depart Princeton Junction weekdays at 6:17 a.m., 7:24 a.m. and 2:29 p.m., arriving in New York at 7:11 a.m., 8:20 a.m. and 3:31 p.m., respectively.
From New York, the trains depart at 10:28 a.m., 5:16 p.m. and 5:37 p.m., arriving at Princeton Junction at 11:59 a.m., 6:24 p.m. and 6:36 p.m., respectively.
The multi-level cars offer 15 to 20 percent more seating capacity than the latest generation of single-level cars; an eight-car multi-level train provides as many seats as a 10-car single-level train.
The multi-level cars offer two-by-two seating; there is no middle seat. The cars also offer more knee room, wider aisles, large tinted windows and more restrooms, among other amenities.
