Princeton Township mayor says she’s ready to begin negotiations

After hearing residents’ suggestions Tuesday on how to resolve Princeton Public Library’s parking situation — and library officials’ response that the ultimate solutions are up to municipal bodies — Princeton Township Mayor Phyllis Marchand said she’s ready to reopen talks with her counterparts.
Mayor Marchand joined the majority of the Township Committee Tuesday by expressing support for Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman’s proposal to reopen negotiations about the canceled library parking subsidy, which library officials say caused the recent decrease in patronage.
"We have to resolve this," Mayor Marchand said. "I’m glad that we have come to a consensus that we will sit down and see how we can negotiate the best settlement."
Despite an initial promise to subsidize free parking at the site, the municipalities canceled the subsidy in February, citing financial considerations.
