Hillsborough’s search for a new superintendent of schools may be nearing a conclusion, Personnel Committee Chairman David Lin said at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
"We are in the final stages of negotiating with the candidate," said Mr. Lin at the Board of Education’s Monday meeting. "I’m confident that we will be able to come to a decision by the end of the month," Mr. Lin said at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
Board President Neil Hudes said the candidate is doctoral-prepared, and has experience working in the central office of a school district.
All of the interviews and meetings with the candidate have occurred, and the negotiations committee is working on the terms of the contract with the candidate. Though the negotiations are almost complete, Mr. Hudes could not give a specific date for announcing the name of the new superintendent.
Neither Mr. Hudes nor Mr. Lin could not specify the number of years the candidate worked in their district, whether the candidate was working as a superintendent or assistant superintendent currently, or the size of the district. Mr. Lin did say that the candidate has a doctorate.
"Like Mr. Lin said, we’re in the final stages," said Mr. Hudes. "I wouldn’t expect that it should take more than a couple of weeks, at most."
Mr. Hudes could not comment on whether the superintendent would be in place for the start of the 2007 to 2008 school year, and cited the need for a release from the candidate’s current contract.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Lisa Antunes has been serving as interim superintendent since Karen Lake’s June 30 retirement.
Dr. Lake was hired at a salary of $169,500 in 2004, after serving as the superintendent of Randolph schools. Her salary when she left this year was $184,122.
