Barbara Rogers of the Cranbury Environmental Commission and the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association would like readers to know about the upcoming family program, No Child Left Inside.
This two-part program will explore the importance and value to children of exploring and enjoying the great outdoors.
The first part of No Child Left Inside will take place on Wednesday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cranbury Public Library. This presentation and discussion session is for parents only. The program will highlight the importance of nature exploration in childhood development. Refreshments will be served.
Part two is for the entire family and will take place on Saturday, July 28 at 9 a.m. outdoors along the Cranbury Preserve. Participants should be prepared for outdoor conditions, which can include bugs and poison ivy during this time of year.

You know we’re in the thick of the summer doldrums when I use space in my column to share my summer reading list, such as it is this year.
It’s been slow going so far, and my stack of books doesn’t look as though it will shrink anytime soon. Right now, I’m reading "Straight Man" by Richard Russo. He won the Pulitzer Prize for "Empire Falls," which was a great read and the reason I picked up this book.
The next two on my list are "The Night Listener" by Armistead Maupin and Jonathan Frantzen’s "The Corrections."
If I get through those, I’ll be moving on to a memoir written by the wife of the late John Thaw, who fellow "Mystery" fans will know as the great actor who portrayed the equally great Chief Inspector Morse for many years.
By the way, thanks to Howard Zogott for thinking of me when you saw this.
