Musical comedy
Thursday, July 26, to Sunday, July 29 The first local presentation of the hilarious musical comedy "Nutcrackers" will take place at the Academy Theater in Bordentown.
In this sequel to the Broadway hit "Nunsense," the fun continues as the nuns of the Hoboken convent try their hand at their own version of the home shopping network.
The production is being offered by Class Act Productions. Seats are limited so make your reservation early by calling (215) 945-4114. The Academy Theater is located on Route 130 South in the Mastori’s Diner complex.
The show goes on at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. Adult tickets cost $15, and tickets for seniors and children under 12 cost $12. Group rates are also available; call for details.
Liberation Day
Friday, July 27 Come celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of Bordentown from the British Troops in July of 1778 with a wine and cheese party. The celebration will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Shoppe 202, located at 202 Farnsworth Avenue. Come in colonial costume and get a Yankee candle door prize.

Soccer camp
Monday, July 30, through Friday, Aug. 3 The Florence Township Soccer Association will host the New York Red Bulls Soccer Camp for children ages 5 to 17. The camp will start at 9 a.m. at Veterans Field, on Broad Street near the municipal building.

Hoagie sale
Friday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 4 The Florence Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 will hold a hoagie sale at the new firehouse, located at 401 Firehouse Lane from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until supplies sell out Saturday.

Diversity celebration
Saturday, Aug. 4 Food for the Soul: A Diversity Celebration will be held in conjunction with the Bordentown 325th Anniversary Celebration from noon to 6 p.m. at the Carslake Community Center, 209 Crosswicks Street in Bordentown. The event is sponsored by the City of Bordentown and the Mt. Zion AME Church and is free and open to the public.
The event celebrates African American life and heritage as well as the influence African culture has had all over the world. Sample soul food from spare ribs to sweet potato pie and other treats, which will be provided by vendors and Bordentown’s local churches. Shop for jewelry, art, music and other ethnic merchandise.
Guest speakers include Vivian Ward, who will speak on the history of Bordentown School #2 (Bordentown’s first colored only school), William Lowery, who will speak about history of the NJ Manual Training and Industrial School for Colored Youth.
Live entertainment will be provided by, among others, the Mt. Zion AME Dance Ministry led by Maxine Shack, the Bordentown Mass Choir led by Jasper T. Daniels, III, and DeVille Borden and Gospel Rap by City Slikaz Productions.
Casino trip
Sunday, Aug. 5 The Knights of Columbus No. 570 are sponsoring a trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City. The bus will depart from the St. Mary’s Church parking lot on Elizabeth Street in Bordentown at 4:30 p.m. for a four-hour stay at the casino. The cost is $20, and each attendee will receive $20 in cash.

Vacation Bible school
Monday, Aug. 6, to Friday, Aug. 10 The First Baptist Church of Bordentown will hold vacation Bible school from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. for children ages 4 through those who have completed sixth-grade. This free program titled The Quest for Adventure, will include bible stories, crafts, singing, recreation, snacks and a special closing program on Friday, Aug. 10.

Golf outing
Saturday, Aug. 25 The Florence Township Emergency Services will host the annual golf outing at the Springfield Golf Center on Jacksonville-Mt. Holly Road. Registration runs from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The shotgun start will take place at 1 p.m. and a buffet dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Fireman’s Hall, Seventh and Main streets, Roebling.
The cost is $80 per golfer, which includes a round of golf with a cart, food and beverages at the turn, the buffet dinner and door prizes.
