James C. "Buzzy" Robinson, 70, died Friday, July 20, at Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice in Edison.
Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Rahway for 27 years; 40 years in Plainfield; and three months in Monroe. He received bachelor’s degree in business administration from Upsala College in East Orange where he also served as assistant football coach and received a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He was employed by the Carteret school system, where he was a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant football coach and head football coach, from 1965 until he retired in 1991. He was also employed by the Essex County Youth House in Newark from 1959 to 1992.
His sister, Jean "Sweetie" Givens, is deceased. He is survived by his wife, Gloria L. Robinson of Monroe; three daughters, Pamela Powell and her husband, Greg, of Easton, Pa., Carla Robinson and her husband, Robert, of South Plainfield, and Susan Reves and her husband, Michael Reves, of Plainfield; two sons, Michael Robinson and his wife, Carolyn, of Willingboro and Reginald Robinson and his wife, Nanette, of Burlington; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Carlton Robinson of Sharon, S.C.; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Dallas and James "Dutchie" Givens of Rahway; an aunt, Jane Robinson of Linden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral was held Wednesday, July 25, at Rose of Sharon Community Church, 825 W. 7th St., Plainfield, preceded by viewing at the church. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Arrangements are by Brown’s Funeral Home, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater N.J. Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, N.J. 07834.
