LAMBERTVILLE A police officer suffered minor injuries, and his patrol car is out of commission after being struck early Monday by an off-duty limousine driver traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.
Police said the limo driver, Roeland Vandommelen, 61, was driving the wrong way on Coryell Street when he clipped the front of Officer Michael Gramlich’s patrol car at 2:46 a.m.
Officer Gramlich, who was going north on Route 29 at the time of the collision, later drove himself to the Hunterdon Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Mr. Vandommelen told police he thought he was driving on Church Street, where he lives when he was actually traveling west on eastbound Coryell Street.
He attributed the error to fatigue after working all day, Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Jones said.
Mr. Vandommelen was not injured and refused medical assistance, according to police.
Police charged him with careless driving and operating a vehicle the wrong way on a one-way street.
No alcohol was involved, according to Detective Sgt. Jones.
