National Night Out set in Freehold Borough

National Night Out, hosted by the Freehold Borough Police Department, will be held Aug. 7 from 6-9 p.m. in the Monmouth County Hall of Records parking lot on East Main Street, Freehold. The evening will include facepainting, jugglers, a balloon artist, turbo tubs ride and a rock wall. Admission is free.

The fire, first aid and police departments will have vehicles on site for visitors to get a bird’s eye view of the equipment and demonstrations on how they work. Local groups including the Monmouth County Drug Alliance and the YMCA of Western Monmouth County will have information tables and CentraState Healthcare System will have its mobile health awareness van available for free health screenings.

The police department will be giving away popcorn and balloons and the first aid squad will be selling hot dogs. National Night Out is a community crime prevention event that gives law enforcement officers, business owners, children and parents the opportunity to get together for fun and friendship.

Film at temple depicts unique relationship

On Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. Temple Beth Ahm, 550 Lloyd Road, Aberdeen, will be showing a film about the current relationship between Helen Rosenzweig and Monika Hertwig.

Rosenzweig is a Holocaust survivor, saved by Oscar Schindler, and she worked in the home of Amon Goeth, who was the monstrous commandant of the Plaszow concentration camp. Hertwig is Goeth’s daughter; she did not learn about her father’s past until her teen years.

These two women have now bonded and in the film they talk about resolving conflicts and overcoming hate with education by telling the world about what happened during the Holocaust. Rosenzweig will participate in a question and answer period after the showing of the film. Admission is $5. Proceeds to go to Israeli charity. Freehold Twp. to host National Night Out

Freehold Township will host its first National Night Out, a crime prevention and drug prevention event sponsored by Freehold Raceway Mall, on Aug. 7 from 6-9 p.m. at the municipal plaza parking lot, corner of Schanck and Stillwells Corner Road.

There will be music provided by 101.5 FM, free giveaways, food, ice cream, McGruff, free rides for children, a balloon artist, face painting, fire department safety demonstrations, a police certified child safety seat check, CentraState Medical Center’s Wellness Van for wellness screening, Monmouth County Blood Bank, the Alliance to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and more.

A blood drive sponsored by the Free- hold Township Police Department will be held from 5-9 p.m. Aug. 7 in the municipal parking lot next to the firehouse.
