FREEHOLD Maria DiMaggio, wife of the man labeled a person of interest in the disappearance of his mistress, Amy Giordano of Hightstown, has filed for divorce.
The filing occurred July 31 in state Superior Court in Monmouth County.
Ms. DiMaggio’s husband, Rosario "Roy" Digirolamo, surprised law enforcement officials by returning from Italy last week to face charges in Delaware of abandoning a baby he fathered with Ms. Giordano. He is free after posting $10,000 cash bond, and faces an Aug. 17 preliminary hearing.
Ms. DiMaggio and Mr. Digirolamo had been married for about eight years and were living in Millstone before he left the country shortly after the baby was found and Ms. Giordano went missing.
In the civil action, Ms. DiMaggio charges her husband with "extreme cruelty" for engaging "in at least one extramarital affair," which resulted in him fathering a child, and abandoning his wife and their 1-year-old son, Antonio, on June 11.
