WEST AMWELL Nicholas "Pickles" Cicchino Sr. died Monday, July 30, at home.
Born and raised in Lambertville, he moved to West Amwell in 1963.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lambertville and a graduate of the former Lambertville High School, Class of 1948, where he had served as vice president of its Alumni Association for many years.
He was a member of the South Hunterdon Regional High School Football Booster Club. From the late 1950s through the late 1990s, he assisted the football coaching staff of South Hunterdon as its team trainer.
He served in the Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict. For more than 50 years, he was a member of the Toscanni American Legion Post 120 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Lambertville.
Mr. Cicchino was a past president of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 89 in Trenton, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad since 1953 and captain of three world championship heavy rescue teams.
During his tenure, he was on the board of trustees, served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. He was past regional vice president of the International Rescue and First Aid Association.
For 38 years, he was a member of the Phillips Memorial Hospital board of trustees in Lambertville, serving as president and vice president and recently nominated president emeritus.
Over the years, he coached with the Lambertville Ramblers football league and the Lambertville-West Amwell Youth Baseball Association and served as treasurer for the Rambler Bowling League.
He was a contributing member of the Union Fire Company in Lambertville and the West Amwell Fire Company. He was a member of the West Amwell School Board of Education and the Lambertville Chapter of the Deborah Heart & Lung Association.
He was the son of the late Theodore Cicchino and Rose DiSalvi Abraitys, widower of Joan Chrismer Cicchino and brother of the late Vincent Cicchino.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas and Debbie of Jamison, Pa., and David and Leigh of Eastampton, N.J.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Chris Bauer of West Windsor; one brother, Teddy Cicchino of Sea Isle City, N.J.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Chrismer of West Amwell; his companion, Mary Kay Myers; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at the church. Burial followed at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery in Delaware Township.

WEST TRENTON Robert H. deFlesco, 93, of West Trenton died Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in West Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He retired in 1979 after 43 years of service as a methods engineer at DeLaval Turbine in Hamilton Township.
He was a member of the Busy "C’s" Seniors Club in Ewing Township and served as president for two years.
He was the son of the late Peter C. and Eleanor E. Orner deFlesco.
Surviving are his wife, A. Mildred "Milly" deFlesco; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. Jr. and Diane L. deFlesco of Stockton; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine J. and P. Rodney Gillmer III of Ewing Township; five grandchildren, Jeffrey S. and his wife, Kim Gillmer, Kenneth T. and his wife, Dora Gillmer, Kimberly L. deFlesco, Dr. Lindsay D. deFlesco and Robert H. deFlesco; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsea, Conner, Jack and Rachel Gillmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Trenton. Burial followed in Ewing Church Cemetery.

SOMERVILLE Peter Ziefel, 40, died Sunday, Aug. 5, at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Pittsburgh, he lived in New Hope for many years and worked in many local restaurants and bars, including the Raven, Cartwheel, John & Peters and Zubis.
He is survived by hi mother, Sandra Marhold, and her husband, Robert; his father, Herbert Ziefel and his wife, Marge; his brothers, Doug Ziefel and James Marhold; his sister, Patricia Smith; a godson, Douglas Ziefel Jr.; a niece, Maggie’ and two nephews, Matthew and Patrick.
A visitation will be held today (Aug. 9) from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, Watchung.
A "remembrance" reading will take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
A local service, to be announced, will be held the end of August.
