PENNINGTON COUNCIL UPDATE

By Olivia Tattory
Pennington Borough Council approved the following resolutions at its regular meeting Monday night.
   • A resolution ratifying the agreement between the borough and Formosa of Hopewell, Inc. ensures that Formosa enlarges the external grease interceptor system at 12 S. Main St. in order to provide sufficient capacity for its two restaurants, Sumo Sushi and Gelato, at the location. The work is to be completed in 60 days, or by Sept. 10.
   • A resolution authorizing a payment of $1,765 to Patterson Chevrolet, Inc. for an additional furnishing to a four-wheel drive pickup truck. The truck was originally delivered to the Public Works Department without the required fiberglass cap and this payment reflects that cost.
   • A resolution to include the $2,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection in the budget. The grant — part of the Forestry Program’s 2005 Green Communities Challenge Grant developed to assist counties, municipalities, schools and non-profit organizations in developing their own unique community forestry projects — was awarded to the borough on July 18.
   • An agreement between the borough and Bristol-Myers Squibb for a $100,000 traffic payment has been authorized. The payment will help to offset the anticipated traffic impacts of the development of the B-MS campus in Hopewell Township, located on the border of the borough. The $100,000 will be paid in either a lump sum or in three installments for the development of new floor area equal to or exceeding 300,000 square feet.
The three significant projects are as follows: $31,000 for an upgrade to the intersection of Main Street and Delaware Avenue; $34,000 for traffic calming and pedestrian safety islands in school areas; and $35,000 for an 8.5 feet realignment of Main Street at the intersection of Delaware Avenue.
