JAMESBURG – The borough wants to know who is doing business in Jamesburg.
Jamesburg’s director of community development, Bernie Long, is collecting information from businesses to be included in a new borough map. He wants business owners to contact him with their business name, address, Web site and phone number by the end of today (Friday) so they can be included on the map.
"This is a really nice service we provide from the borough to the businesses and the residents," Mr. Long said of the maps.
He said the maps will include not only businesses, but parks, churches and schools in Jamesburg. The project was prompted by the need to update the existing borough maps, which were created five years ago.
"They were very popular," Mr. Long said. "I ran out of them."
While the maps are popular among current residents, newcomers to Jamesburg benefit from them as well.
The information Mr. Long is collecting about local businesses will go to the borough engineer, Remington, Vernick & Vena. The engineering firm will digitally construct the maps and send them to the Jamesburg Press for printing.
The maps will include borough numbers, such as for the fire and police departments. Mr. Long said locations in Jamesburg will be marked by number rather than with images.
According to Mr. Long, the engineering firm is donating its efforts to making the maps, as is the printer. In addition, Borough Attorney Fred Raffetto is donating the cost of the paper.
The donations mean the maps will be distributed free by businesses.
Mr. Long said he expects the maps to be printed and ready within a month.
The deadline for businesses to submit their information to Mr. Long is today (Friday). Interested businesses should give their name, address, Web site and phone number to Mr. Long at the Jamesburg Borough Hall, (732) 521-2222 ext. 105.
