The new principal of Crossroads South Middle School is a familiar face, and school district officials expect a smooth transition.
At its meeting Monday night, the Board of Education named Raymond Tucholski, an assistant principal at the school for the last 10 years, as the replacement for James Warfel, who was named as the district’s director of student services after the retirement of George Scott.
Mr. Tucholski will be paid an annual salary of $131,747. His appointment was effective Aug. 1.
Board members said Monday that they were pleased to find a new principal so close to home.
"(Mr. Tucholski) has the foresight and responsibility to take the reins from Jim Warfel," said board member Matthew Speesler. "It’s nice to be able to promote someone from within."
Board member Barry Nathanson said Mr. Tucholski has been Dr. Warfel’s "right-hand man" for a long time.
"I think he’s going to do an excellent job," Mr. Nathanson said.
Mr. Tucholski has worked in the South Brunswick School District since 1977 as a math teacher and an administrator. He was named an assistant principal at Crossroads Middle School in 1997 and was a part of the transition to a two-campus school.
He has also been heavily involved in the district’s athletic program, with tenures as the athletic coordinator, South Brunswick High School head softball coach and assistant football coach.
In remarks to the board, Mr. Tucholski praised the staff at Crossroads South and said he appreciated the opportunity to continue working there.
"For over 30 years, I’ve been a proud member of the Crossroads family," he said.
