Owen S. Nugent

   MANVILLE — Owen S. Nugent died Aug. 15 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He was 84.
   Born in Edinburg, Scotland, he lived in Nanticoke and Levittown, Pa., before settling in Manville in 1964.
   Mr. Nugent served in the U.S. Army Ranger 4th Battalion from 1943-1946 during World War II. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and Honorably Discharged Button, a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal along with European-African-Middle East Medal (3 stars), the Army of Occupation Medal and Somerset County and NJ Distinguished Service Medals.
   He also received six Overseas Service Ribbons within 18 months, Valor Medal, three Clusters for Rifle, Pistol and Antitank (Marksman), Army Discharge Honorable Sign, Infantry Emblem, 2 Corporal Patches (T/5) and the World War II Victory Medal.
   He was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville for 22 years.
   He was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 in Manville and the Manville Senior Citizens Club.
   A daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gregory, is deceased.
   He is survived by his wife, Clara V. (Cackowski) Nugent; one daughter, Patricia Hnidj of Manville; a son, Daniel of Hillsborough; his siblings, Samuel Nugent, Elizabeth Clarke, and Mary Korch; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held Aug. 18 from Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home in Manville, followed by a funeral liturgy at Christ the King R. C. Church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
