The township Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment are looking for a new attorney.
Joseph Stonaker, who has served in the post for both boards for more than 20 years, will be retiring as soon as a qualified replacement is found.
The board is hoping to reach a final decision on Mr. Stonaker’s replacement by its next meeting on Sept. 20.
According to James Golubieski, Planning Board vice chairman, five applicants have been interviewed so far.
Thomas Harvey, Planning Board chairman, said Mr. Stonaker has been a pleasure to work with.
"Joe is so knowledgeable and honest and straightforward," Mr. Harvey said. "I’ve never worked with a better attorney."
Mr. Harvey said Mr. Stonaker’s knowledge of the law and problem-solving ability have made him a valuable asset to the board, in addition to the general enjoyment of being around Mr. Stonaker.
He also said the board members appreciate Mr. Stonaker’s candidness.
"If he doesn’t know something, he’ll tell you," Mr. Harvey said.
Mr. Harvey said the board will miss Mr. Stonaker’s contributions.
"He’s fabulous," he said. "I can’t be more glowing about anyone."
