Princeton Lodge No. 2129, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, based in Blawenburg, presented scholarships to 10 local high school seniors, chosen for academic accomplishment and community leadership.
The recipients are:
Sumona Bhattacharya of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, who will be attending Cornell University;
Charles Carluccio of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North, who will be attending Haverford College;
Daniel Fryer of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, who will be attending Ursinus College.
Jing Fu of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North, who will be attending Princeton University;
Richard E. G. Gainsborg of Hopewell Valley Regional High School, who will be attending Rider University;
Andrew Gavenda of Princeton High School, who will be the University of Michigan;
Julie Hadinger of Montgomery High School, who will be attending Elizabethtown College;
Erin Hoerner of Princeton High School, who will be attending Gilford College;
Griffith Montferrante of Montgomery High School, who will be attending Mercer County Community College, and
Maryanne Muscente of Hopewell Valley Regional High School, who will be attending the University of Maine.
In addition, the lodge announced that two graduates of Montgomery High School are recipients of scholarships from the Elks National Foundation. They are Kristina D. Magid, who received an Elks Legacy scholarship, and who will attend the University of Delaware, and Leigh Ellen Vanzino, who received an Elks "Most Valuable Student" four-year scholarship, and who will attend the University of Pennsylvania.
The Elks National Foundation provides more than $3 million in college scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors. The Most Valuable Student scholarships are open to any graduating high school senior. Legacy Awards and Emergency Educational Grants are available only to the children of Elks.
The application process and deadlines vary for each of the programs. All applications must go through the local Elks Lodge before reaching the Elks National Foundation office.
