An ophthalmologist, who lived in Pennington, died Friday night from injuries sustained in a rollerblading fall the previous day.
Lt. Lance Maloney of the Hopewell Township Police Department said Dr. Floyd Weinstock, 53, was pronounced dead by the Mercer County Medical Examiner’s office at 9:07 p.m. Friday.
Lt. Maloney said police received a call at 2:10 p.m. on Aug. 23 reporting an unconscious man on the side of Benjamin Trail, near Blackwell Road.
Officers found Dr. Weinstock bleeding from a head injury. EMTs from the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Unit arrived, treated Dr. Weinstock and took him the trauma unit of Capital Health Systems’ Helene Fuld Campus in Trenton.
"It was apparent that Dr. Weinstock had been rollerblading down Benjamin Trail toward Blackwell Road," Lt. Maloney said. "There is a down slope in this area. It appears that for unknown reasons Dr. Weinstock fell, striking his head on the pavement."
Dr. Weinstock was not wearing a helmet.
There were no witnesses to the incident, Lt. Maloney said, and no evidence that Dr. Weinstock had been struck by a vehicle.
The doctor carried no identification. Police were able to learn his identity by speaking to residents in the area who knew him.
Dr. Weinstock had a private practice in Lawrenceville.
Sgt. Elwood Benner and Detective Michael Simonelli were the investigating officers.
