The cause of the Aug. 9 garage fire on Carriage Way has been officially listed as "undetermined," Township Fire Marshal Ron DiLapo said Monday.
Mr. DiLapo, who conducted the investigation with Mercer County Fire Marshal James Greshak, said evidence that could have substantiated a definite cause was washed away during the fire fighting effort.
"Because of the way the fire was put out, the evidence that would be there is not available," he said.
However, Mr. DiLapo said that interviews with the residents indicated that the fire may have been sparked by an incandescent light that ignited some nearby combustible items.
Firefighters responding to the fire at the three-car garage and attached carriage house, which appeared to have started in the loft, were able to prevent further damage at the time by removing a portion of the slate roof at the property, according to Station 63 Deputy Chief Truestar Urian.
No injuries were reported and firefighters were able to remove two cars and a boat from the garage without damage.
The fire did not affect the main house.
