Dukes Parkway area sees more break-ins

By Audrey Levine Staff Writer
A string of bicycle thefts and car burglaries in the neighborhood of Kimberly Road and Taylor Avenue, off Dukes Parkway, on Aug. 18 appear to be connected — and may be related to an earlier car theft there, police said.
Previously, four residents of the area had reported car break-ins between Aug. 6 and Aug. 11.
A Kimberly Road resident reported that her vehicle was rummaged through while it was in her driveway between 8 a.m. Aug. 18 and 2:06 p.m. Aug. 19, and, although nothing was missing there, two bicycles, valued at $70 each, were stolen from her lawn, police said.
In addition, the victim reported two sheds appeared to have been entered, but nothing was missing, police said.
Also, a Hammler Road resident reported a vehicle pulled into his driveway and two males began to exit the vehicle. When the resident stepped out of his house, he reported, they got back into the vehicle and “peeled” away.
The resident told police he had initially been suspicious of them because he had been the victim of auto theft several weeks before. No more information on this theft was available.
A Taylor Avenue resident reported that a satellite receiver and radar detector were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway between 9 p.m. Aug. 18 and 1:30 p.m. Aug. 19, police said. The receiver was valued at $40, and the detector was valued at $130.
Police said other bicycle thefts have been reported in the vicinity of these incidents, all between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Aug. 18. Police said they believe there may be two people involved in the crimes because of the pattern of stealing two bicycles.
According to Lt. Bill Geary, it is believed the crimes may have been committed by the same people based on the proximity of the incidents.
”It is unusual in that area to have activity of this nature,” he said.
