   Hillsborough Toastmasters Club meets at 7:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Center of Life Church, 32 New Amwell Road in Hillsborough. Meetings are open to the public. Friday, Sept. 7

   Somerset Valley Players, Amwell Road, Hillsborough, musical comedy, “Once Upon A Mattress,” continues through Sept. 30. The performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday matinees. Tickets are $18; Friday and Sunday only, tickets for senior citizens and students are $16. Saturday, Sept. 8

   Household hazardous waste drop-off will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Branchburg Township Public Works Garage, 34 Kenbury Road, Branchburg.
   First Saturday of the Month drop-off program will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 40 Polhemus Lane, Bridgewater. For detailed information on both drop-offs, call 231-7031. Both programs are free to county residents.
   Birding field trips at Duke Farms for Autumn Migration: Neotropical Songbirds. Advance group meets 7 a.m.-noon with a rain date of Sept. 15. Novice group meets 7 a.m.-noon Sunday, Sept. 9 with a rain date of Sept. 16. Travel with Duke Farms’ naturalists to the property’s birding “hotspots.” Cost of tour is $15 per person.    The Manville-Hillsborough Elks Annual Clam Bake, benefiting special needs children, will be from 1-5 p.m. with a rain date of Sept. 9, at Elks Lodge, Brooks Blvd., Manville.    Millstone will celebrate the Washington/Rochambeau Revolutionary Route through New Jersey. The festivities will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a children’s parade, crafts and games, a ceremony at a revolutionary war grave-site, Dutch dancers, self-guided tour, blacksmith demonstrations, tours of the Reformed (Dutch) Church and picnic at the Borough Hall.    The story of the D&R Canal: A pictorial Presentation will begin at 11 a.m. at the Abraham Staats House in South Bound Brook. There will also be open house tours and living history displays through 4 p.m. The event is free. For additional information, call (732) 469-5836.
Monday, Sept. 10

   Manville Borough Council meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the municipal courtroom. The Borough Council meets the second and fourth Monday of each month.
   Meet author Lisa Mullarky for discussion and book signing at noon at Manville Public Library, 100 South 10th Ave., Manville. Her book, “Splashing by the Shore,” filled with great ideas and fun activities for the beach is available for purchase. Host: Hungry Readers Book Club. For information, call 722-3057.
   Rotary Club of Hillsborough/ Manville will be having a golf outing at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course located in Branchburg. There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Interested participants can call 884-6361 for details.
   Somerset Naturalists, Patty Murray, will give an illustrated lecture of Butterflies in East Africa and how they are saving a Kenyan coastal forest. The program begins at 8 p.m. at the Bridgewater Library, Voght Drive, Bridgewater. For directions and questions, call (732) 940-0234.
Tuesday, Sept. 11

   Manville Public Library features The Plum String Band from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This is an acoustic band that plays the best of traditional blue-grass music, as well as Americana, including popular country and traditional American music. Free and refreshments are provided. This program is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts, and administered by the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission through the State/County Partnership Local Program.
Wednesday, Sept. 12

   Manville recycling will be held.
   Manville Board of Adjustment meets at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal complex. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month.
   Slavic dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Hillsborough. Adults, ages 9 and up $10, and children 8 and under $5 and offers all you can eat. For information, call 725-0615. Next dinner is Oct. 10.
Looking ahead

   A Big Rummage Sale will be held at the Somerset County 4-H Center at 310 Milltown Road in Bridgewater — Sept. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (½ price sale from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 15. Food and baked goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds will benefit improvements to the Ted Blum 4-H Center facility. Donations of items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 10 to Sept. 12 at the back gym door of the 4-H Center. For more details, call the 4-H Office at 526-6644.
   Bound Brook Rummage Sale at St. Paul’s Episcopal, corner of Church and Franklin St. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 21. Big-bag sale on Friday. Sale benefits outreach and in reach programs of the church.
   Basket auction sponsored by Women’s Club of Hillsborough will be held Sept. 21 at Mary, Mother of God Church, Triangle Road.    Dr. Eric Waldorf will be holding a lecture on stopping, preventing or reversing arthritis at Somerset Valley YMCA Somerville Center from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 25. There is no fee for attending the lecture. It is free and open to the public but seating is limited. Call 722-4567 for information.
   Crafters wanted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 for the Annual Fall Craft Show to be held on the lawn of the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville. Space is $30; bring your own table. The craft show is sponsored by the Senior Arts and Crafts, a non-profit organization that donates monies to local charities.    Manville/Hillsborough Elks lodge 2119 Halloween fund-raising party will be held from 7 to midnight Oct. 20 at the Elks lodge, Brooks Boulevard in Manville. Tickets are $25 per person (cash only) and will feature live music by Hit N Run, cash bar, costume contest and door prizes. Tickets can be purchased at the Elks lodge.
