MONTGOMERY A 21-year-old township resident is being held in Somerset County Jail after being charged with attempted murder early Sunday morning.
Victor Gallardo-Percastegui is accused of using a knife to stab Aurelio Lopez-Segura following an argument between the two men, Montgomery Township police said.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Montgomery police received a 911 call, regarding a possible burglary at 430 Wall St. at approximately 1:33 a.m. Sunday.
Sgt. Robert Mitchell responded and saw several individuals in an apartment complex parking lot. Mr. Lopez-Segura approached Sgt. Mitchell and told him that he had been stabbed and threatened by Mr. Gallardo-Percastegui. Police later discovered that Mr. Gallardo-Percastegui had also threatened and attempted to assault Marco Hernandez Del Cid, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Mr. Gallardo-Percastegui was processed by the township police and charged with two acts of attempted first-degree murder, third-degree terroristic threats and third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail on a $250,000 cash bail set by Superior Court Judge Paul W. Armstrong.
Notification of Mr. Gallardo-Percastegui’s charges was made to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Sunday, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Mr. Lopez-Segura was driven to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, where he was treated and released. Investigation of the incident is continuing.
