Wife of Princeton University graduate dean
Suzanne Scoble Kernan died Friday at home after a long illness. She was 84.
She was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. in 1923. She graduated from New Rochelle High School and attended Parsons School of Design. She served in the WAVES in 1944 and 1945, and married Alvin Kernan in 1949 in Oxford, England, where she was a student at the Ruskin School of Art.
She lived in Princeton from 1973 to the present, having moved here with her family when her husband became the dean of the graduate school at Princeton University. Later the family lived at 76 Battle Road, where she was a dedicated and talented gardener.
Ms. Kernanis survived by her husband of 57 years Alvin Kernan, and her children: Geoffrey Peters of Princeton; Katherine Rubin of New York; Marjorie Stone of Blue Hill, Maine, and Alvin Kernan, Jr. of Oakland Ca.
Her body will be cremated and the memorial service will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
