Elaine Yuenger Brower of Princeton died Sunday at home. She was 84.
Born in Omaha, Neb., and a former New York City resident, she moved to the Princeton area in 1954.
She was a speech therapist at many schools in central New Jersey.
She was a founding member of the Princeton chapter of the American Ethical Union and later of the Princeton Ethical Humanist Fellowship.
She attended the University of Omaha briefly and later worked for AT&T in Omaha before moving to New York City in 1941.
During World War II, she worked as an executive secretary for several architectural firms in New York and later for the Prudential Insurance Co.
In 1946, she began a brief career as an actress and it was at the Ivoryton Playhouse in Connecticut in 1948 that she met her future husband.
The couple lived in New York before moving to Princeton when her husband began his teaching career at the Princeton Theological Seminary.
She graduated from Rutgers University summa cum laude and later earned a master’s degree in speech at the College of New Jersey, where she was a member of the Honor Society. She then began her career as a speech therapist.
Daughter of the late Walter and Corinne Yuenger, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Brower; sons Walter of Pennington, Dana of Princeton and Raymond of Denver; and grandchildren Charles Brower of Pennington and Lucretia Brower of Chicago.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Vivian S. Schnittker EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — Vivian Sovik Schnittker died Saturday at home. She was 70.
Librarian at Carrier Clinic
Born in Philadelphia, she was a longtime resident of Montgomery Township before moving to North Carolina seven years ago.
She was a medical librarian at the Carrier Clinic in Montgomery.
She was a past president and trustee of the Van Harlingen Historical Society in Montgomery. She was an avid animal lover and gardener.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Fred A. Schnittker; son Christopher P. Schnittker of Elkin Park, Pa.; daughter Kim D. Jones of Easton, Pa.; sister Diane Kennedy of Montoursville, Pa.; and grandchildren Kevin and Haley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mildred Catholic Church, Swansboro, N.C., with the Rev. Donald Baribeau officiating.
Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.
Visiting hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, 407 Hammocks, Road, Swansboro, N.C. Condolences may be left at jonesfh.org.
