Meryl Bisberg and the Roma parents
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsors of the Hillsborough Soccer Club (HSC) Under-12 Boys Team Roma, for all their support during this past year.
When the Roma was formed last fall from several other teams all from within Hillsborough, we as parents knew the boys had the talent and our coaches had the skill to take the team to the next level. We also knew we had to get out there, play a lot of tournaments and practice hard to build a record that would take us there. Even with the financial burden of club fees, uniforms, and out of state travel on the families, there was still a lot of additional cost associated with tournament fees, equipment, etc.
In addition to the boys raising their own funds through merchandise and service fund-raisers, we set about asking several Hillsborough businesses and professionals to sponsor us.
Several local businesses saw the team’s potential and responded to our request. A special thanks goes to the Affinity Federal Credit Union Marketing Department and Hillsborough branch, who not only made a donation to our team, but ultimately become a sponsor for the entire Hillsborough Soccer Club.
Affinity really worked with us to understand our needs and show their commitment to the community by developing a long-term partnership with HSC. Their Credit Union/Community Banking model can be of great benefit to every local individual, family and business in meeting their financial needs.
Thanks also to the following 2006-2007 Roma sponsors: Dr. Neil Youngerman and the physicians and staff of Somerset Pediatrics; Dr. Dan Marulli, DDS, Orthodontics; Dr. John Peterson, DMD of Pullen, Peterson, Brower, and Weiss; and Angelo’s Pizzeria. More detailed information about our sponsors can be found on the Roma team Web site on HSC’s Web site, www.hillsboroughsoccerclub.org.
With some talent, great coaching, and the financial and fan support of our sponsors, our team is advancing this fall to play in a premier development league called MAPS, the Mid-Atlantic Premier Soccer league, which boasts some of the best soccer teams in a large tri-state area —- New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania — even Delaware.
It’s remarkable that a town team could reach this level strictly with homegrown Hillsborough talent and coaching.
The Roma is fortunate enough to have not only good players but a wonderful and dedicated head coach, Achille Confuorto, who has also taken an older team to the MAPS level. We also have a great assistant coach in Mark Kot and logistics whiz team manager Barb Papp. But without the town of Hillsborough and its sponsors behind us, we would probably never have gotten so far so fast.
Thank you, Hillsborough, thank you sponsors, and thank you soccer fans. We hope to see you all when we take to the field in September!
