Manalapan’s Andrew Robinson, who competes for the YMCA of Western Monmouth County, finished 20th in the one-mile open water ocean swim conducted by Jersey Shore/Manasquan Beach. The swim was held at Manasquan Beach and was the first time that Robinson, who is a lifeguard at Manasquan, participated in an open water swim.

With the YMCA this past year, Robinson qualified for the YMCA Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He is a senior at Christian Brothers Academy.

Freehold’s Jack Baggitt Jr. had the hot hands at Freehold Raceway on Sept. 5 when he won eight of the races on the 13-race card. The total was just one shy of the one-day track record of nine wins co-held by several drivers. The last to accomplish that feat was Daniel Dube last October.

Baggitt won the very first race of the day with Tally Again and just kept winning. His other winning drivers were Appalach Dream, Stromble Dream, Wintersbrawlatnite, Baby Cookie, Gloria’s Girl, L A Girl and Mystical Sign.

The $85,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings was held on Sept. 5 and it was Better Than Most who was just that for driver Jeff Gregory. Posting a 2:01 mile, Better Than Most topped Yankee Gospel by a length and three-quarters.

It was the second win in seven starts for the gelded son of Self Possessed.

Dontloseyourjob set a New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres record for 2- year-old pacing colts at Freehold Raceway Friday winning one of the three $10,000 races in 1:54.2. Driven by David Miller, Dontloseyourjob won by a huge nine-and-one-half lengths. The son of Life Sign, broke the previous Green Acres record of 1:55.2 set last y ear by Beware of Darkness.

Genuwine, 1:56.2, and Russian River, 1:59.1, won the other two $10,000 Green Acres finals.

Hunters Helping Hunger is a program that enables hunters to donate venison and provided protein to needy individuals throughout New Jersey. This is the fifth year for the HHH program. Because of limited funding, hunters donating venison also donate a minimum $25 towards the fee charged by butchers.
