John E. Guria
BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP — John E. "Jack" Guria, 78, of Burlington Township died Sept. 2 at home.
Born in the Harlem section of Manhattan, N.Y., he also lived in Queens, N.Y., and spent the remainder of his life in the Florence and Burlington Township area.
Mr. Guria was a self-employed truck driver for most of his life and worked part time for Nades Auto Auction in Bordentown. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, in which he served two tours of duty. Mr. Guria was a member of the Fort Dix Swim Club and liked jazz, gardening and working with anything mechanical.
Husband of the late Hazel Harris Guria, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Tonette Roy of Burlington Township; step-son, Willie Jackson of Florence; sister, Rosilia Barrow of Queens, N.Y.; brother Charles (Joan) Lang of Florida; four grandchildren, Damon (Donna) Jackson of White Plains, N.Y., Nina Guria of Beverly, Nicole Roy of Bensalem, Pa., and Natalie Roy of Edgewater Park; and five great-grandchildren, Kala, Nala, Kashawn, Zori and Leyla. Additionally, he leaves two brothers-in-law, Saul (Eva) Harris and Charles Harris; all of Roebling; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Friday at the Dennison Funeral Home in Florence. Interment was held in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Florence. Contributions in his memory may be sent to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive (Suite 300), Marlton, NJ 08053.
