Charter panel sets September meetings

Three sessions expected

The Charter Study Commission set a tentative schedule for September meetings, planning three in a row to continue discussions about an informational flier that will be sent to residents.
After a nine-month study, the commission proposed a change in the Hillsborough government from a township committee form – with five elected members of a governing committee and a mayor chosen internally from among them — to a mayor-council form, which has a directly elected mayor as well as five elected members of council and a mayor-appointed business administrator.
Voters will weigh in on the proposal on Nov. 6.
”We want to get the information to the public enough before elections (in November) so it is not dismissed as election material,” said Chris Jensen, chairman, of the need to meet throughout September to prepare the piece.
The commission set aside three meeting dates, all subject to change, to discuss upcoming plans. They will meet Sept. 12, 19 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building on South Branch Road.
In addition, Mr. Jensen said he and Commissioner Bill Page will be speaking to the senior citizens in Club A on Oct. 4.
”Any group can request information or to have commissioners speak to them, time and schedules permitting,” Mr. Jensen said. “But the best way to get information is to read the commission’s final report, ask a commissioner or review the videos available at the library.”
