Laura Brustowicz Milek

Mrs. Milek, of South River, died Aug. 29, 2007, at home. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was employed as a seamstress with Berman Dress Co., South River, where she worked for 40 years. Her husband, John S. Milek, died in 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Dolly Milek of South River, and a son, Richard Milek of Jamesburg; a son-in-law, Walter Semchenko of East Brunswick; two sisters, Mamie Maskalewicz of South River and Florence Boris of Florida; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Estelle Ann Narkiewicz Ptaszynski

Mrs. Ptaszynski, 88, of South River, died Aug. 19, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Winter Park, Fla. Prior to her retirement in 1972, she was employed with Chicopee Manufacturing Co., Milltown, where she worked for 25 years. Her husband, Theodore Ptaszynski, died in 1994. Surviving are three children, Barbara Zwolinski, and her husband, Frank, of South River, Robert, and his wife, Denise, of Orlando, Fla., and Patricia Betchan, and her husband, Glenn, of Winter Park; two brothers, Walter Narkiewicz of South River and Edward Jackiewicz of The Woodlands, Texas; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Richard J. Wieland

Mr. Wieland, 60, of Mount Laurel, formerly of Spotswood, died Aug. 31, 2007, at home. Prior to his retirement this year, he owned and operated Discount Cosmetics and Colognes, Spotswood, for 30 years. Surviving are a daughter, Christine Ditski of Mount Laurel; a brother, Robert Wieland of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Linda Rassmussen of Londonderry, N.H.; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Interment was private.

Walter Samuel Quackenbush

Mr. Quackenbush, 80, of East Brunswick, formerly of Old Bridge and Freehold, died Aug. 18, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed as a chemical operator with E.I. DuPont, Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 25 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Iris Fenny Quackenbush. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Berardinelli Quackenbush; two daughters, Brenda Ruggiere of the Forked River of Lacey and Denise Herman of Tennessee; two sons, Robert Connolly, and his wife, Honda, of Aberdeen, and Patrick Connolly of California; three brothers, Ronald, Samuel and Edward Quackenbush; three sisters, Faye and Sharon Bergen and Beverly Papernick; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Spotswood Funeral Home. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Christopher D. Meyers

Mr. Meyers, 21, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, formerly of Old Bridge, died Aug. 21, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. A 2004 graduate of Middlesex County Vocational and Technical High Schools, East Brunswick, he was employed as a stock clerk at ShopRite, Parlin, and before that, at ShopRite, Matawan. Surviving are his parents, Arnold Meyers of Old Bridge and Debra Bonsante Meyers of Parlin; two sisters, Lauren and Annabella Meyers, both of Parlin; his maternal grandmother, Carmella Squillace of South River; his paternal grandmother, Grace Meyers of Old Bridge; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Private cremation followed.

Julia Rusin Bosko

Mrs. Bosko, 97, of South River, died Sept. 5, 2007, at home. Her husband, Alex Bosko, died in 2004. Surviving are a niece, Helen Wanson of South River; a nephew, Alexander Rusin Jr., also of South River; a great-niece, Audrey Loyer, and her husband, John; a great nephew, Wayne Wanson, and his wife, Cindy; and many great-great-nieces and great-greatnephews. A Mass was offered at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Entombment was in Holy Cross Mausoleum, South River.

John “Jack” Allen Hurlbert

Mr. Hurlbert, 84, of Freehold Township, formerly of Helmetta, died Aug. 16, 2007, in Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed with First Fidelity Bank, where he was vice president since 1969. He was past president of and an instructor for the American Institute of Banking’s Monmouth chapter. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane Erickson Hurlbert; his mother-in-law, Teressa C. Erickson; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth M. Walling, of Keyport; and many cousins. A memorial service was held at First Church of Christ Scientist, Freehold. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Freehold First Aid Squad, 18 Spring St., Freehold, NJ 07728.

Alwine “Ina” Kurtzweg Bluhm

Mrs. Bluhm, 98, of Spotswood, formerly of North Brunswick, died Sept. 5, 2007, in Cranbury Center. Her husband, Alfred, died in 1964. Surviving are a daughter, Jean M. Thomas, and her husband, Robert, of Fishkill, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Lori and Richard Thomas. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.

Rosemarie Mathilda Serafin Terhune

Mrs. Terhune, 56, of Manalapan, died Sept. 1, 2007, in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was a bus driver for the Freehold Regional High School District for 25 years. Surviving are her husband, William Terhune; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Steve LaRoza of Bethlehem, Pa.; her mother, Mathilda Serafin of Manalapan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Johanna LaChapelle of West Linn, Ore., Karen and Chris Acostar of Huntington, Md., and Mary and Paul Robb of Oakhurst; a brother and sisterin law, Robert and Leslie Serafin of Manalapan; a sister-in-law and her husband, Florence and James Mount of East Brunswick; a brother-inlaw and his wife, Michael and Amy Terhune of Tampa, Fla.; a grandson, Nicholas LaRoza; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. Interment was in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan.

Charles J. Dillman

Mr. Dillman, 76, of Monroe, formerly of East Brunswick, died Aug. 24, 2007, in Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. He retired from the American Red Cross, Princeton, after serving as director of several New Jersey chapters. A son, Shane V. Dillman, died in 2000. Surviving are his wife, Martha Kratz Dillman; a son, Craig L. Dillman of Sutton, Mass.; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Cremation Services of Central New Jersey, East Brunswick.

Nicholas Grabko

Mr. Grabko, 83, of South River, died Aug. 26, 2007, in Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice, Edison. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was employed as the plant fire chief at E.I. DuPont Photo Products, Parlin section of Sayreville. His wife, Rose B. Urewich Grabko, died in 2001. Surviving are a son, Nicholas W. Grabko of Bridgewater; a daughter, Debra M. Bird of Lagrange, N.C., a brother, John Grabko of Barnegat; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River. Arrangements were under the direction of Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River. Memorial contributions may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church.

Anna Elizabeth Van Dusen Peterson

Mrs. Peterson, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Sept. 6, 2007, in Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. She worked for several years as a teacher’s aide at Emma L. Arleth School, Parlin. Surviving are her husband, Donald H. Peterson; two daughters and sons-inlaw, Cynthia “Cindy” Peterson Myers and Edward Myers of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra “Sandy” Peterson Moncur and William Moncur of Piscataway; two sisters, Janet Monroe and Kathryn Clark, both of Sayreville; a sister-in-law, Marion Karwatt, also of Sayreville; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
