Don’t be lost in translation

Learn about it at the Princeton Public library

The Princeton Public Library Thursday presents:  The Art of Translation with Shelley Frisch, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room.
The Princeton resident will discuss the pleasures and complexities of translating non-fiction. Her talk will examine how publishers decide which foreign literature should be brought to English-language readers as well as the nuts and bolts of rendering a text in a new language.
Passages from published translations will be read and discussed, with an eye to the perennial decisions a translator faces as to when to stay literal and when to wax literary.
Frisch is the author of The Lure of the Linguistic and has translated nine German books, including  Neffe’s Einstein: A Biography. She serves on the Translation Committee of the PEN American Center.
