Michael W. Tkacs, President Avenue
To the Editor:
Over the past few years, a lot of changes have taken place in my part of town. Years ago, Business Route 1 was a mess. Vacant businesses, a hotel frequented by bad elements and a general deterioration of the quality of life characterized my neighborhood. It looked like South Lawrence had been written off by the powers that be.
But the Democratic majority that took over Lawrence council decided to change all that. They’ve made changes that have made me proud of my part of town again. They helped get rid of the Trent Motel. The Democrats tore ýPage=008 Column=001 OK,0000.00þ down abandoned buildings and cleaned up the mess. Now South Lawrence is on the upswing. New businesses and new homes have revitalized the area. Pam Mount, Mike Powers and Jim Kownacki have each played a big part in that process. They’ve worked on the various township committees and on council over the years to encourage redevelopment, all the while making sure the changes didn’t have an adverse effect on my quality of life.
I’d like to thank Pam, Mike and Jim for their hard work.
