The Old Bridge Revolution U13 girls soccer team opened its season with a convincing 4-0 win over the Toms River Allstars at Riverwood Park field.

The Revolution’s relentless attack as well as superb defense keyed the victory. Natasha Amaro scored two goals while Natalie Principato and Melissa Jerome scored one each. Melina Kontos recorded the clean sheet with help from defenders Emily Garcia, Kaitlyn Safchinsky, Kristen Jezycki and Minki Medina. The midfielders, Marissa Ilaria, Meaghan Huddy, Kelly Cameron, Natalie Norcutt and Kelsie Dunnigan, controlled the ball movement throughout the day. Strikers Kelsiann Acer, Kim D’Ermilio and Tonilynn Taranto constantly harassed the opponent’s defense with penetrating runs.

Sayreville Athletic Association Basketball Program will hold registration this month for grades kindergarten through nine. Boys and girls are invited to register. Registration will be held at the Sayreville Athletic Association Trailer on Saturday, Sept. 15, 22 and 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. The trailer is located behind the Selover School, Morgan. Any questions, please call Matt at (732) 313-6111. The association also announced a new travel basketball program for boys and girls ages 9-14. All players must participate in the recreation program. Teams will play in at least one league and two tournaments from November through March. Tryouts will be held Sept. 24 and 26 at the Upper Elementary School. The Milltown Baseball Program, a chartered Little League Baseball Program since 1953, announced that the program will expand to include girls softball. The softball program will include clinics, instructional video, regular-season games as well as tournament play. The initial plan is to have three levels of play – minor (ages 7 to 9), major (ages 10 to 12) and senior (ages 13-15). However, nothing is absolute and the program will adjust as needed, especially during its first year.

The league officials are excited to offer this program to all female student athletes and welcome all those who wish to become involved. Registration and further information will be sent through the schools in the coming weeks. Registration is now being accepted for the fall Old Bridge Ice Hockey Instructional Program, beginning Sunday, Oct. 7. The 11- week program for ages 5-8 will be held 5:15- 6:30 p.m., while the program for ages 9-13 will run 6:30-7:45 p.m. The cost is $250 for residents and $300 for nonresidents (add $1 administrative fee per registration). The Raritan Bay Cougars played the Port Reading Saints in week 3. In the Junior Pee Wee game, the Cougars defeated the Saints 25-0. Minkah Fitzpatrick had a great game on the ground, scoring three rushing touchdowns, and Mike Friedman scored once. A great defensive stand was spearheaded by Chris Hulse and Tom Shivers along with Julanee Price, who grabbed an interception. At the Pee Wee level, the Cougars defeated the Saints 12-0. Dwayne Trawick scored once on the ground and once in the air on a 45-yard pass from Brian Gearghty. Dmitriy Mikhol and Kevin Salamea helped lead a dominating Cougar defense. At the Midget Level, the Cougars defeated the Saints 27-0. Julian Daly scored twice on punt returns of 80 and 45 yards. Jesse Meyer scored on a quarterback keeper, and Aston Austin also got a rushing TD. It was a dominating defensive stand by the Cougars, with William Dowdell and Donte Anderson having a strong performance.

The following week, the Cougars played the South River Knights. In the Junior Pee Wee game, the team defeated the Knights 28-0. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Mike Friedman both had rushing touchdowns. At the Pee Wee level, the Cougars were defeated by the Knights, 21-6, with Alex Hoheb scoring for the Cougars. At the Midget Level, the Cougars defeated the Knights 20-0; Louis Millan scored twice, and Jesse Meyer threw a touchdown pass to Brian Cahill. The Cougars defense also turned in a strong performance, with William Dowdell grabbing an interception and Jarrod Eardley having a strong performance as well.
