A story published in the Sept. 12 edition of the News Transcript, “Town Still Pursuing Shared Services,” was written by staff writer Kathy Baratta. Due to an error in production, an incorrect byline was placed on the article.
Contained within a letter to the editor that was published in the Sept. 12 News Transcript is a statement by David Finkelstein that Stuart Moskovitz sued Manalapan while he was a township committeeman. That statement is incorrect.
Although Moskovitz was serving as Manalapan’s mayor in 2000, he was working as a private attorney in representing a group of residents of the Elton Point housing development who sued Elton Point Inc. and the engineering firm of Schoor DePalma for defective septic system work.
In order to remove Moskovitz from the case, the defendants (Elton Point Inc. and Schoor DePalma) sued Manalapan. At Moskovitz’s request, the judge ordered the township’s attorney to file a motion to be removed as a defendant from the case. A special counsel eventually filed a motion and Manalapan was removed from the case.
In the end, the residents of Elton Point successfully settled their case with the defendants, Elton Point Inc. and Schoor DePalma.
CME Associates was Manalapan’s municipal engineering firm in 2004. An article “Judge Denies Attorney’s Request to Dismiss Case” in the Sept. 19 News Transcript incorrectly stated that a different firm was the municipal engineer in 2004.
