Lawrence boys soccer coach PJ Barrett expected more from the Cardinals in the loss to West Windsor-Plainsboro North on Tuesday and in the win over Allentown last Thursday.
The Knights defeated Lawrence, 3-1, and the loss dropped the Cardinals to 3-2-1.
”It was a disappointing loss,” said Barrett. “In our mental preparations we didn’t work as hard as we needed to.”
While Lawrence recorded its third straight win over Allentown, the Cardinals let the Red Bird rally from a three goal deficit before winning, 4-2.
Lawrence held WW-P North scoreless in the first half, before the Knights took a 3-1 advantage in the second half.
”It was a good reality check,” said Barrett. “Something we’ve struggled with is that we must show up to play every minute of every game.”
While the Cardinals managed to deny Allentown after taking a three-goal lead, the Knights jumped ahead with their second-half tallies.
”Brian Pillsbury played outstanding,” said Barrett. “He kept us in the game.”
The senior goalie had six saves, while WW-P North led in shots, 7-6.
Pawel Romanski led Lawrence’s offense, scoring off an assist from Justin DeMarco.
”It was inside the 18,” said Barrett, “he tucked it right into the goal.”
Sweeper Matt Korkuch and DeMarco earned praise from Barrett for their efforts against the Knights.
”They always give 100 percent efforts,” said Barrett.
Against Allentown, Stu Borajkiewicz, Paul Grant Jr., Zach Everson and Doug Franc scored, while Pillsbury recorded 10 saves.
Prior to defeating Allentown, Lawrence had impressive wins over Notre Dame and Hopewell Valley.
The Cardinals are scheduled to take on Trenton today (Thursday) and Robbinsivlle on Monday.
