Township police are looking for a man who attempted to sexually assault a woman and steal her car from the Dollar Tree parking lot on Brunswick Pike at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
The woman had finished shopping at the Dollar Tree store and was placing her packages in the car when the man grabbed her and pushed her into the car. He also grabbed the car keys from her, said Lt. Charles B. Edgar said.
The man got into the car and began to touch her chest and make sexually explicit comments, Lt. Edgar said. He threatened to drive her away from the area in the car. She struggled with him and kicked him numerous times, causing him to fall out of the car.
The man ran west into the Dollar Tree parking lot toward the residential neighborhood at the rear of the business. The woman received some bruises, but declined medical treatment, Lt. Edgar said.
The man is described as a stocky or heavy short-haired black male, about 30 to 40 years old, wearing a short-sleeved, bluish gray T-shirt, loose-fitting khaki pants — possibly Dickie-brand work pants — and a gold chain around his neck. He was wearing suede shoes and smelled of alcoholic beverages, according to reports.
Anyone with information on the incident or who may have observed a man matching that description in the area of Brunswick Pike and Texas Avenue should call the Lawrence Township Police Department at (609) 896-1111.
