Mr. Elkovics, 85, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, died Sept. 29, 2007, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided there 30 years, prior to relocating to West Keansburg 55 years ago. He was a school bus driver at R. Helfrich and Son, West Keansburg, for several years. Prior to that, he was a retired chemical engineer at NL Industries, Sayreville, for more than 40 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the 4th Company, 2nd Regiment, 1st Special Service Force or “Black Devils.” He was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. He was an exempt fireman from the McClellan Engine Company, No. 3, Perth Amboy. He was a former president of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union, Sayreville. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Florence in 1992; and a sister, Mary Handerhan. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jayne and Mark Clark, and Nancy and Steve Hagan; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Marcie Elkovics; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Catherine’s Church. Entombment was at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
