LAMBERTVILLE — A lifelong member of the Lambertville school community is retiring after devoting 19 years to the job of business administrator.
Toni Slack will retire Jan. 1 from Lambertville Public School. She also served as secretary to the LPS Board of Education and worked part-time as Stockton Borough School’s business administrator.
The LPS Board of Education is preparing to discuss the possibility of sharing a business administrator with another school, said President Steven Wolock. The Personnel Committee will meet Oct. 9 to discuss options.
West Amwell currently employs an interim business administrator and needs to permanently fill the position.
”Nothing has been decided or even discussed formally yet with each other or West Amwell,” Mr. Wolock said. “How we proceed is up in the air.”
The two schools already share a superintendent, Todd Fay. That arrangement started in July.
Ms. Slack was born and raised in Lambertville. She attended the local elementary school when it was called the Third Ward School. It was housed in a building across the street from LPS that now holds apartments.
A photo of the Third Ward School hangs on her office wall, a testament to her fondness for the time and the place.
In 2005, the Lambertville High School-South Hunterdon Regional Alumni Association honored Ms. Slack for her outstanding community service.
A 1960 graduate of South Hunterdon, she has volunteered with the Lambertville Girls Softball League, the Lambertville PTA, the Lambertville Brownie troop, the city’s variance board and the Office of Emergency Management, among other activities.
After working all day overseeing the finances of LPS, Ms. Slack tackles Stockton’s finances in the evening from home. Both jobs include accounting and paying the bills.
When she retires, she and her husband, Charles, plan to do a little bit of traveling.
After that, who knows?
She said, “I’ll take it easy and see where I wind up.”
