The election in Marlboro is about the future of our town and not about party affiliation. I represent many Republicans in Marlboro who are not supporting Mayor Robert Kleinberg. As the acting president of the Marlboro Republican Club, here are our concerns:
• Municipal taxes have increased over the past four years. In this election year, Kleinberg deferred a larger tax increase by issuing a $6 million bond that Marlboro taxpayers will be paying off well into the future.
• Kleinberg was a member of the Board of Education before he became mayor and had responsibility for the increases in school taxes.
• Kleinberg has had several tax liens and judgments against him, two of which were issued in 2006 while Kleinberg served as our mayor.
• Irresponsible decisions, such as the hasty purchase of the turf field, have Kleinberg looking for the money to pay for it.
• Kleinberg spent $2.3 million on lost litigation to gain popularity.
• Kleinberg used a township vehicle for personal reasons.
• The Open Space Committee recommended the preservation of Stattel Farm, one of the most pristine open spaces left. Kleinberg’s plan is to put 187 affordable houses there.
• Kleinberg practices intimidation tactics and disrespects residents. He verbally abused a child and this is an embarrassment to our Republican Party.
• Good leaders encourage ideas and engage their administration and the residents. Kleinberg has discouraged any assistance and has alienated those who do not agree with him. This leadership by exclusion discourages open dialogue that is productive in deciding policy.
I encourage every voter to check out www.republicansforhornik.com to make an informed decision. We cannot afford another four years of Kleinberg.
Marlboro has many challenges ahead, including paying off unnecessary bonds and restoring integrity and confidence in our government. We believe Jon Hornik is ready to face the challenges and will promote an open bipartisan government that brings people together and respects the concerns of all Marlboro residents.
