Luigi “Louis” Chiappetta
Mr. Chiappetta, of Freehold Township, died Sept. 30, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Fiumefreddo, Calabria, Italy. When he came to the United States, he settled in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 15 years ago. Mr. Chiappetta was a proprietor of his own shoe-repair store, first in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later in Staten Island. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colts Neck. Surviving are his wife of more than 60 years, Carol Chilelli Chiappetta; two sons, Vincent Chiappetta of Sayreville and Louis Chiappetta of Jackson; a daughter, Lilly Chiappetta of Freehold; a sister, Nella Chiappetta of Italy; and four grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by entombment at Holmdel Cemetery. The Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Felix Sgroi
Mr. Sgroi, 84, of Jackson, died Oct. 7, 2007, at Geraldine L. Thompson Care Center, Wall Township. He was born in New Brunswick and had lived in Wall Township before moving to Jackson in 1998. Prior to retiring in 1985, Mr. Sgroi was a mason and bricklayer with union Local No. 15, New Brunswick, for more than 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 370, New Brunswick, as well as a member of the American Legion’s Joyce Kilmer Post No. 25 in Milltown and Molly Pitcher Post No. 434 in Englishtown. In addition, Mr. Sgroi was a hunter and a deep-sea fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sgroi; a son, James VanDerveer of Nazareth, Pa.; two daughters, Karen Raymond of Scotch Plains and Margaret Arling of Freehold; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & Mc- Girr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown section of North Hanover. Bernard J. Fiorentino
Mr. Fiorentino, 82, of Howell, died Oct. 10, 2007, at home. He was born in Orange, Essex County, and had lived in the Robertsville section of Marlboro for more than 30 years before moving to Howell in 1991. Prior to retiring in 1988, Mr. Fiorentino was a tool and die maker with the RCA Space Center, Hightstown, for 27 years. He was a petty officer second class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the European theater. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Louise A. Fiorentino; six sons, Bernard Fiorentino Jr. of Freehold, Thomas Fiorentino of Toms River, James Fiorentino of York, Pa., Rodger Fiorentino of Jackson, Ted Fiorentino of Sayreville and Louis Fiorentino of Howell; two daughters, Lynn Snyder of Linden and Rose Marie Manek of Manalapan; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Clayton & Mc- Girr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.
Norma T. Rod
Mrs. Rod, 71, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., formerly of Manalapan and Lakewood, died Sept. 30, 2007, at Littleton Adventist Hospital, Littleton, Colo. Born in Tampa, Fla., she had lived in Manalapan and Lakewood before moving to Highlands Ranch in 2006. She had worked with her husband, Frank, a founding partner of Design 446, and later assisted her sons at their company, Twin Vision Graphics, Howell. Mrs. Rod was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of 38 years, Frank. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Thomas McNamara of Freehold; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank and Carol Rod of Highlands Ranch, David and Tracey Rod of Jackson, and John Rod of Freehold and companion Veronica Humphrey; three sisters, Josephine D’Ambrosio, Eva Luzzi and Helen Byrne; a brother, Hannibal Hernandez; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, followed by burial at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville section of Marlboro. Clyde Lawrence Boyce
Mr. Boyce, 65, of Marlboro, died Oct. 9, 2007, at St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark. Born in Colts Neck, he was a lifelong resident of Marlboro and a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. Prior to retiring in 2004, Mr. Boyce worked for the Marlboro Township Road Department for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a member of Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Morganville section of Marlboro, for the past 28 years, where he had previously served as a commissioner and a lieutenant. He was also a deputy district warden of the N.J. Forest Fire Service, Section 10, for more than 20 years. In addition, he was a member of the Deep Search Metal Detecting Club of East Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a son and daughter in-law, Lawrence and Wendy Boyce of Morganville; a daughter, Dawn Boyce of Englishtown and her companion, Steve Forgus; three brothers and their wives; Allen and Margaret Boyce of Howell, William and Joanne Boyce of Underhill, Vt., and Brett and Christine Boyce of Marlboro; and a sister and her husband, Sandi and Henry Daugherty of Canterbury, N.H. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Eric I. Nelson
Mr. Nelson, 49, of Middletown, died Oct. 12, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in France, Germany and Baltimore, prior to relocating to Middletown seven years ago. He was a stay-at-home dad. He is survived by his wife of one year, Kim; his children, Rose and Alex; his parents, Mary and Ian Nelson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Rich Wiggins of Ellicott City, Md., and Peg and Larry Mayerowitz of the Fords section of Woodbridge; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim Nelson of Orlando, Fla., and Chris and Sharlene Nelson of Jackson; his mother-in-law, Joan Fromhertz of Westfield; his father-in-law and stepmother-in-law, Phil and Lois Fromhertz of Lebanon; and two sisters-in-law; and a brotherin law. Catherine Bolger
Mrs. Bolger, 94, of Howell, died Oct. 7, 2007, at Bartley Healthcare Nursing & Rehabilitation, Jackson. She was born in County Mayo, Ireland. Mrs. Bolger was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin, in March 2007. Surviving are a son, Thomas Bolger of Dallas; a daughter, Kathy Ann Bolger of Manalapan; a sister, Annie May Duffy of Ireland; and two grandchildren. Florence M. Lau
Mrs. Lau, 92, of Matawan, died Oct. 10, 2007, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Jersey City, she was a lifelong resident before relocating to Matawan recently. She was a former communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City. She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1977. She is survived by two sons and daughters in-law, John and Carole of Great Falls, Va., and William and Camille of Jackson; a daughter and son-pin-law, Joan and Richard Kopps of Manalapan; nine grandchildren; and 18 greatgrandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Aloysius Church. Interment was at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City. Arrangements were by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.
Joseph A. DeSimone Sr.
Mr. DeSimone, 72, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Sept. 11, 2007, at home. Surviving are his wife, Ann Miles DeSimone; five children, Debbie Walsh of Bedminster, Joseph DeSimone Jr., and his wife, Cheryl, of Manchester, Karen Moss, and her husband, Bruce, of Jackson, Victoria Haresiak, and her husband, Frank, of South Amboy, and Guy Smith of St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Carmen DeSimone of Hollywood, Fla., and Thomas DeSimone of Howell; and nine grandchildren. Services were held at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Iselin section of Woodbridge.
