The ward system should be a winner in Edison. I strongly support the ward system on the November ballot, as does the Edison Democratic Party and the Edison Republican Party along with many independents. I believe a strong government encourages widespread participation.
The ward system, which is allowed under the Faulkner Act, gives the more than 100,000 residents in various neighborhoods of Edison an even greater opportunity to be better represented by government. One of the biggest problems in our U.S. democracy is widespread [lack of] citizen participation. Hopefully, through wards, many more will become active participants in a type of government that is sought by populations all over the world.
We have much to gain and very little to lose by putting our stamp of approval on wards for Edison. Vote a resounding yes to both questions on the ballot and make the dream that many have a reality.
