DOWN ON THE FARM

   Visitors to Howell Living History Farm on Nov. 3 will learn a lot about bacon, sausage and scrapple. They will see these and other pork products are made.
   Farmers will work from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. rendering lard, making pork products and showing visitors the origins of different cuts of pork. Cracklins’ and other delicacies will be free for the asking, and pork sandwiches will be available for sale.
   A children’s craft program, “Pine Cone Bird Feeder,” will be held in the farmhouse from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $2 per craft. Groups (eight or more) wishing to participate in the craft program must preregister.
   Howell Farm is located on Valley Road. Parking and admission are free. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 737-3299, or visit: www.howellfarm.org.
   Located on Valley Road — off Route 29 —the “Great Horseshoe Maze” will be open Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 10, with entry hours from noon-5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. on Sundays.
   In addition to trying out the maze, visitors will be able to enjoy seasonal refreshments and wagon rides, pick pumpkins, and compete for prizes by getting through the maze as fast as possible. The maze will close with a “picking party” on Nov. 10, featuring a public corn harvest, wildlife demonstrations, children’s crafts, and traditional autumn refreshments.
