Bob Kusek, Lannigan Drive
Can anyone name a single program initiated by Rick Miller or any of the present Republican candidates during the last 10 years? I was at the debate last week and all the Republican candidates did was verbally attack and abuse. In regards to new programs, new ideas or new plans to consider for our neighborhoods, we heard none-zero-nothing-nada-zilch. They are a team of non-entities — always criticizing, never originating anything to improve our Lawrence neighborhoods.
However, look at what the Democrats have done. Every neighborhood has been the recipient of some program, which has improved our way of life. From upgrading sports facilities and fields, adding open space, new curbing and sidewalks, new paved roads, twice dredging and cleaning Colonial Lake, supporting senior citizen housing and meal programs, establishing the Lawrence-Hopewell trail, advancing the beautification of Eggerts Crossing by planting the greenway, supporting Lawrenceville Main Street, initiating the Housing Rehabilitation Program, designating Brunswick Avenue as a redevelopnent zone, obtaining funds to clean up the Fibre Drum plant, built the new police and court headquarters and initiated the beautification and safety enhancements for Eldridge Park. All of this was done while maintaining a stabilized municipal tax rate.
The Republican candidates continue to criticize but you never, ever hear or read of any new programs that will enhance one of our neighborhoods. Pam Mount and Mike Powers have demonstrated their ability and willingness to work on new ideas and help upgrade conditions in neighborhoods throughout Lawrence. Jim Kownacki has diligently worked on the Planning Board, the Brunswick Avenue Redevelopment Zone Program and been an active, vocal and responsible member of the Eggerts Crossing Civic Association, the Growth and Redevelopment Committee and the Lawrence Construction Board of Appeals. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps. These are the candidates I am supporting and ask you to look deeply into the qualifications of all the candidates for election in Lawrence.
Bob Kusek is a former mayor and councilmember for Lawrence Township.
