Lester R. Brown Sr.
NEW EGYPT Lester R. Brown Sr. died Oct. 23 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. He was 82.
Born in Neptune Township, and a longtime New Egypt resident, Mr. Brown retired from McGuire Air Force Base where he had been a mechanic.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received a Purple Heart and two Battle Stars after being wounded during battle in Belgium on Dec. 29, 1944. He served as an anti-tank gun crewman with the 75th Division, Headquarters 290th Infantry during the Rhineland and Ardennes Campaigns. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6590 in Cookstown.
Husband of the late Susie Brown, father of the late Esther Weber and stepfather of the late Margaret Pavlica and Mable Havens, Mr. Brown is survived by two sons, Lester Brown Jr. of New Egypt and Russell Brown of Jackson; a daughter, Sue Stillwell of Jackson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at Tilghman Funeral Home, New Egypt, followed by burial in Cassville Cemetery, Cassville.
