I am writing in reference to a letter to the editor printed in The Princeton Packet on October 30, 2007. I’m not sure where Mr. Sparno of Montgomery gets his facts, but for somebody accusing others of making unfair charges, he is outright wrong about property taxes in Montgomery Township. Anybody can check with the NJ State Department of Community Affairs and see that Montgomery Township does have the highest property taxes in Somerset County. Unfortunately, that problem is only going to get worse as the Democratic majority has spent down the surplus that was left by the previous administration and is facing ever mounting bills on the NPDC site.
Another charge by Mr. Sparno suggests that Frank Drift and the Republican candidates have engaged in “ugliness”. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Mr. Sparno is engaging in “ugliness” with the nasty accusation that Frank Drift and the Republican candidates do not understand the school funding problem in New Jersey. They unfortunately understand it all too well. The candidates understand that it is a funding system that has been promulgated by Democrats in Trenton. They also understand that Mr. Fay having several meetings six weeks before an election is a ploy to get re-elected, not a real attempt at changing school funding. Especially when the meetings Mr. Fay has been having involve discussing decreasing no district’s school funding while increasing funding for other districts. If no district gets less, taxpayers are still going to make up the difference, not in local taxes, but in other taxes. How does this make any sense?
In addition, maybe the Democratic candidates failed to mention to Mr. Sparno before they asked him to write his letter that they have made public, slanderous accusations against Mr. Drift that have no place in a political campaign. The Republican candidates have not made any slanderous accusations, they have only pointed out facts in their mailings. The Democrats may not like having these facts pointed out, but the Drift, Graham, Dyer team has used their mailings to point out what is currently wrong with the Democratic administration and they have offered suggestions for change.
I am voting for Frank Drift, Pat Graham and Kacey Dyer on Tuesdsay, November 6. I hope you will consider doing the same.
