Dot Riley, 101, formerly of Pennington, died Monday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Riley was predeceased 100 years ago, almost to the day, by her mother, Clara Stolle Reichheld. Raised by relatives and her father in Cleveland and Detroit, she married William “Al” Riley in 1930.
Mrs. Riley was a homemaker, sportswoman and community volunteer in Detroit and at Au Sable River cabin. A retrospective for her 100th birthday celebration characterized her activities, which included church volunteer, golfer, trader of scarce books, bridge player, gardener, school funding advocate and chef for wild game meals.
Upon becoming a widow in 1990, Mrs. Riley moved to downtown Pennington.
Predeceased by her husband, and son Bill (in 1957), she is survived by her son Bob and his wife Susan Riley of Pennington; son Dan and his wife Lenore Riley; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Pennington Presbyterian Church, 13 S. Main St., Pennington.
Her ashes will be interred with her husband at Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the Rileys instead suggest instilling in young children a love of the outdoors, books, gardening, cooking, learning, participation in sports and games, or a gift to the Pennington Public Library.
Arrangements are being made by the Blackwell Memorial Home, Pennington.
